The main idea behind this group of flight simulation pilots was born on several occasions flying missions during IL-2 Online wars e.g. VOW or Air Domination War. The participating FIS pilots had to fly for one side together with pilots of other virtual squadrons - it was more or less a loose bunch of people trying to reach their goals together in an online competition.
After setting up an own online War based on the Bellum War engine its developing FIS members start to become fond of the idea of gathering a group of people flying for one of the opposing sides in this competition. They named their online event Fighting Irish Barbarians Online War (FIBOW) honoring the idea that these pilots can work together as a team like mercenaries despite their memberships in other squadrons.
